Jobs For Mississippi Graduates
Delta Workforce Funding Collaborative
The Delta Workforce Funding Collaborative, led by the Foundation for the Mid South, consists of South Delta Planning & Development District, Tri-County Workforce Alliance, Mississippi Department of Employment Security, Mississippi Economic Policy Center, and the State Board of Community and Junior Colleges. Recently the collaborative supported Jobs for Mississippi Graduates and endowed them with a grant for $150,000 to become the newest workforce intermediary in the Mississippi Delta. Jobs for Mississippi Graduates will use the funding to establish a workforce partnership within the manufacturing sector with a focus on in demand skills and occupations that are transferable across multiple sectors. These skills include welding, plumbing, HVAC, etc…
JMG will be expanding job seeker awareness of opportunities in career pathways for these in-demand occupations. In addition, JMG will also provide participant training in the areas of: employability skills, career readiness, and financial literacy/asset development for unemployed and under-employed individuals. By providing a holistic approach to the challenges many face in the Delta towards employment and the persistent problem of lack of qualified employees faced by industries, the collaborative hopes to alleviate the massive unemployment seen among Delta counties. The work is centered on helping unemployed and under-employed individuals in Mississippi find pathways to livable wage careers. The work has an added benefit of creating better quality employees for industry and strengthens the economic vitality of the entire region. This is the second workforce intermediary funded by the Delta Workforce Funding Collaborative. A healthcare intermediary has been working in the Mississippi Delta for nearly two years now with excellent results. The DWFC is looking to replicate similar results in other workforce sector in the Mississippi Delta.
