The Allstate Foundation Hurricane Recovery Fund is a donor advised-fund housed at the Foundation for the Mid South to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts for nonprofit organizations in Mississippi with a focus in Biloxi and along the Gulf Coast.

Funds may have also been directed toward other nonprofit recovery efforts throughout Mississippi.

The deadline for applying was 12.23.05.

Nonprofit organizations were required to provide supporting documentation inlcuding: Copy of 501(c)(3) letter, Detailed Program Budget, and Timeline for Program Implementation.

The Allstate Foundation Hurricane Recovery Fund made grants to grassroots nonprofit organizations in support of programs that aid rebuilding and recovery efforts outlined in the eligibility criteria listed below. Preference was given to organizations whose programs serve larger numbers of affected people.

Eligible Programs

  • Emergency shelter, food & clothing
  • Health issues (as a direct result of the disaster)
  • Social services
  • Mental health recovery efforts
  • Emergency housing
  • Local transportation for victims to seek recovery services
  • Community clean up
  • Restoration and recovery of community services
  • Assistance with home reconstruction resident permit processing

Excluded Programs

  • Insurance advocacy efforts
  • Programs that restrict participation on basis of religion. Faith based organizations are eligible, but disaster recovery efforts must be made available to all members of the community, regardless of religious affiliation.
  • Programs that restrict participation on the basis of age, gender or lifestyle
  • Local chapters of national organizations (e.g. Red Cross, Salvation Army)
  • Fundraising events
  • Memorial grants
  • Disaster preparedness / safety education

GRANT REQUESTS could have ranged from $5,000 to $15,000.
Larger requests were reviewed on a case by case basis.
